Abstract
InfectionwithEBVhasbeenassociatedwithvariousinflammatorydisordersincludinginflammatoryboweldiseases(IBD).Contributionofthisvirustointestinaldiseaseprocesseshasnotbeenassessed.WepreviouslydetectedthatEBVDNAtriggersproinflammatoryresponsesviatheactivationofendosomalToll-likereceptor(TLR)signaling.Hence,toexaminethecolitogenicpotentialofEBVDNA,weusedthedextransodiumsulfate(DSS)mousecolitismodel.C57BL/6JmicereceivedeitherDSS-containingorregulardrinkingwater.MicewerethenadministeredEBVDNAbyrectalgavage.AdministrationofEBVDNAtotheDSS-fedmiceaggravatedcolonicdiseaseactivityaswellasincreasedthedamagetothecolonhistologicarchitecture.
